Alliant Energy proposes rate adjustment

We are proposing to adjust our rates for electricity and natural gas for 2017 and 2018 in a filing we made today with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

This is our first request to increase retail electric and natural gas base rates since 2010.

Our request resulted from collaboration with the Citizens Utility Board and the Wisconsin Industrial Energy Group and must be approved by the PSCW to become effective.

We are requesting an overall increase in:

  • Electric retail rates of 1.1 percent, or $12.9 million
  • Natural gas rates of 12.9 percent, or $9.2 million (or 6 percent total bill impact)

An electric residential customer using 700 kwh/month would see a phased-in increase of $4.39/month or 4.7 percent by 2018.

A residential natural gas customer using 772 therms/year would see an increase of $3.47/month, or 7.6 percent.

We’re also proposing new pricing plans and options, including:

  • Nights and weekends – ideal for those who can limit daytime weekday use
  • Fixed bill – offers a set electric bill amount for 12 months with no true-up
  • Green power – ability to offset usage with locally sourced green power at reduced rates through Second Nature program

The request reflects the investments made in our utility system, including:Cleaner energy graphic

  • Improvements in the environmental profile of Columbia Energy Center and Edgewater Generating Station
  • Expansion of pipeline infrastructure so more customers can take advantage of the low cost of natural gas
  • Continued safety and reliability investments

These electric cost increases are offset in part by reductions in projected 2017 fuel costs, which are included in this filing.
